Florida's Best Lawn & Pest
Powder Post Beetles

Powder post beetles lay eggs in the pores of untreated or unfinished wood, and their larvae tunnel through it as they feed — often for months or years — leaving behind a fine, powder-like dust that gives the pest its name.

Because the damage happens inside the wood, an infestation is often discovered only after furniture, flooring, or structural wood starts showing small exit holes.

Signs You May Have Powder Post Beetles

  • Tiny, round exit holes (about the size of a pinhead) in wood
  • Fine, powdery dust (frass) beneath or around wood surfaces
  • Weak, crumbling wood along edges or corners
  • Adult beetles found near windowsills in spring and summer

Our Treatment Approach

We inspect affected wood to determine the extent of activity and recommend treatment based on severity — from targeted chemical treatment of infested wood to guidance on replacement when damage is extensive. We'll also flag moisture or storage conditions that attract these beetles.
